United Way's Suit Yourself Boutique to Open on Day of Caring, Thursday, August 19
August 19, 2010(Springfield, MO)…A new Boutique is opening Thursday, August 19…Suit Yourself Boutique is a referral boutique for women to shop at no charge, when they cannot afford appropriate interview or workplace clothing. This is a program of FLiP, Female Leaders in Philanthropy, an initiative of United Way of the Ozarks. Suit Yourself Boutique is located at 320 W Pershing, (Pershing & Campbell).
Referrals to Suit Yourself are made by counselors at organizations such as PENMAC Staffing Services, Missouri Career Center, OTC, Ozarks Regional Y, plus a number of other groups. Suit Yourself will also work with their customers on other resources that focus on personal mentoring, financial and health education and other issues that are of specific concern to women and families. The Suit Yourself Committee is chaired by Raylene Appleby, PJC Insurance CEO and United Way Board member.
The Suit Yourself Boutique location, was made possible through assistance from OakStar Bank.
FLiP, is an initiative of United Way of the Ozarks and is a network of women helping women and is dedicated to changing our community for the better. FLiP focuses their time and resources in three critical issue areas…Children-at-Risk, Basic Needs & Self Sufficiency and Healthy Families. Dr Nancy O'Reilly, a United Way Board Member, serves as the 2010 Female Leaders in Philanthropy Chair.
The Community Foundation of the Ozarks extended a $25,000 challenge-grant opportunity to the United Way of the Ozarks, which is focusing on its Female Leaders in Philanthropy to raise and use the dollar-for-dollar matching funds for the Suit Yourself and School Backpack initiatives. This challenge grant is intended to provide funding for high-priority human services needs through the United Way's strong and well-recognized leadership role in the metropolitan Springfield area.
As an additional expression of support for the FLiP initiatives, several Community Foundation staff members will participate at the Suit Yourself Boutique for its Day of Caring project on Thursday.
United Way of the Ozarks is a locally governed, volunteer-driven organization whose Mission is to increase the understanding of human needs and mobilize resources to meet those needs.
United Way of the Ozarks funds over 40 programs and initiatives that address critical health and human service needs in a 14 county area.
