Community celebrates progress of United Way campaign

October 13, 2008

Thursday, October 16, United Way will have a report breakfast to announce mid-campaign progress to community partners and volunteers. During the program, select companies will highlight the amount raised from their fundraising efforts, and United Way will chart the path to success in raising funding for 23 agencies and health and human service programs that address critical issues in a 14 county area. The breakfast meeting will be held at 7:30 a.m. at Boys & Girls Town of Missouri (1212 W. Lombard).

The 2008 United Way campaign goal of $3,516,000 was announced at the Kick-Off on August 28. The campaign will officially end in November with a victory celebration at the Doubletree Hotel.

United Way of the Ozarks traces its origins to 1930 when a group of committed people built upon the familiar spirit of giving by many for one goal. United Way's mission then and now remains the same: To increase the understanding of human needs and mobilize resources to meet those needs. Today the United Way's board and 2000+ volunteers help people by raising money and resources and allocating those funds to provide essential community assistance programs and services, fight hunger, promote and provide healthcare services, build leadership skills in children, and provide education and mentoring assistance to children and adults.
