Female Leaders in Philanthropy

"Third Annual FLIP Luncheon and 2005 Women's Initiative Grant Announcement was held on Thursday, June 30, 2005."

Over 90 women attended the United Way of the Ozarks Female Leaders in Philanthropy (FLIP) Third Annual Luncheon and 2005 Women's Initiative Grant Announcements. Along with the grants presentations there was a speaker and roundtable discussions regarding the Meth problem in Missouri.

"We hope to create not only an awareness of what Meth is doing to our community, but also ways that we can help stop it from harming any more families." said committee Chair, Mary Kay Meek.

Women's Initiative Grants focus on programs dealing with Women and Children and Domestic Violence. This year the following agencies received program grants:

American Red Cross, Community Partnership, Child Advocacy Center, Family Violence Center, Lutheran Family Services, and The Kitchen.

Springfield, MO—Most women don't see themselves as philanthropists. Female Leaders in Philanthropy is about to change this view.

The United Way of the Ozarks is proud to announce Female Leaders in Philanthropy (FLIP) will join its community service programs. Through the Women's Initiative Fund, the community serving women's interests will have greater resources.

"It's broader than fundraising. It's addressing needs," explains FLIP and Women's Initiative Chairperson Sally Hargis.

FLIP will not replace current enhancement organizations. It's intended to identify critical needs in the Ozarks and explore how women can collaborate to address those needs effectively by using direct resources. This isn't a one-time event, or a short-term project. It will consist of an ongoing study and fundraising to care for those determined needs.
